WeDispatch 1.8.0: listen, fix, and know what it costs
A player inside your audio list, creation from pasted text, the cost announced before you start, and a series of fixes across settings and billing. A tour of version 1.8.0.
This release comes down to one idea: telling you what is about to happen, before it happens. What an
audio will cost before you start it, where its production stands while it runs, and why the service
refuses when it refuses.
New
Listen without leaving the list. A full player appears under the row you are listening to, in
“My audios”: stop, seek, volume, speed. One player for the whole screen, so two audios can never talk
at once.
Create an audio from pasted text. Not every source has a public address, an internal document, a
text not published yet, a newsletter. Paste the text, it is estimated in front of you, you start it.
The cost announced before you start. Pasting an article's address no longer triggers production:
the screen first announces the number of characters, the likely listening time and the credits
needed. The text that will be read is shown and editable, if the article overshoots by one credit,
the screen says how many characters to remove to fit. Nothing is charged before you agree.
Production that says where it stands, and can be stopped. A ring shows the real progress and the
current step. You can interrupt it: only the characters actually read are counted, the rest stays
yours.
The automatic path is configured where you connect your site. Automatic voicing can be paused
during a run-in period, without disconnecting your feed or losing your history. Articles published
while it is paused are not caught up when you resume: resuming triggers no backlog invoice.
Ticking a language says what it costs. Three extra languages means four readings of the same
article, yours included. The figure appears the moment you tick, not on next month's invoice.
Improved
Refusals explain themselves. Quota reached, regenerations used up, voice unavailable: the reason
appears in plain words under the button instead of hiding in a tooltip. And a feature your plan does
not include says so before the click, rather than refusing after it.
PDF to audio. PDF documents are now read correctly, and their title taken from the document.
Appearance settings apply, and show. Font, default playback speed and custom stylesheet take
effect on selection, no more “save” button, and the preview updates.
Changing plan. The comparison of what you gain and what you give up opens in the middle of the
screen, closes with the keyboard, and the billing panel finally offers to move up a plan.
Reserving your audios for registered listeners. Switching this lock now prepares the free previews
and moves the files first, and only switches on once everything is ready. Your already published
audios keep playing throughout.
An audio can no longer fail because two backup voices took turns, a relaunch restarts
immediately, and an audio requested by hand starts without waiting for the automatic retry.
