WeDispatch 1.5.3: every blog article now has its audio version

The blog is fully narrated, in French and in English, with no manual step. The mechanism is exactly the one we offer our customers — we apply it to ourselves first.

We sell audio versions of articles. It was time ours were complete. From this version onwards, every article on this blog carries its audio version, in French and in English, with no hand involved — including the ones published tomorrow morning.

The match is made on the article's address

A page and its audio find each other through the article's canonical address. This is the same mechanism our customers get: nothing to copy across, nothing to paste into the content, no identifier to keep track of. The page asks whether a reading exists for its address, and mounts the player if one does.

The corollary is a pleasant one: an article published later is covered with no particular action, and an article whose text is revised is read again automatically. The audio follows the content rather than freezing on top of it.

Nothing is read twice

Every reading is identified by a fingerprint of its text. An unchanged article is never read again, and therefore never billed again. A modified text does trigger a fresh reading — which is exactly what you want from an audio version meant to stay faithful to what is written.

Existing articles are caught up in small batches across scheduler passes rather than in one burst. A queue that moves steadily beats a bulk run that times out halfway.

An editorial choice stays an editorial choice

A few articles carry a voice chosen by hand. The automation leaves them alone and never writes over them. The rule is simple and holds across the product: what has been decided explicitly outranks what is inferred.

Both languages on equal footing

The English blog gets the same treatment as the French one, on equal terms, with the same matching mechanism and the same language-appropriate default voice. There is no primary language and no secondary one.

What comes next

The fully European voice brick remains the current project. A blog narrated end to end will be its best proving ground: the day the sovereign tier reads in Europe from the first link to the last, this is where the difference will be heard first.
